Non-Wovens are stabilizers and interfacings that have a solid appearance. They are created by various processes. The vast majority of HTC Retail Division non-wovens are made by a process call "Wet Laid." This process uses water to evenly distribute the fibers. The end result of the process produces fabrics that are non-directional, dense and can be either soft or firm.
The combination of polyester (used for softness), rayon (used for stiffness and tearability), and cellulous (as a filler) in various combinations produces the fabrics you know as TearAways and CutAways.
Items that are fusible go through an additional process in which they are coated with a special heat activated fusing that allows the material to be adhered to other surfaces with the use an iron.
